PART – 10

Arjun sat quietly in his car parked a few streets away from Inspector Rakesh Sharma’s residence, the engine turned off and the surroundings cloaked in silence, as he carefully observed the building from a distance, knowing that this was no longer a simple investigation but a delicate operation where one wrong move could expose him completely, and despite the trust he once had in the system, he now understood that he was operating alone, surrounded by unseen enemies who were always watching.

The name “Rakesh Sharma” echoed in his mind, not as a suspect he had expected, but as someone who had built a reputation over years of service, someone respected within the department, making the possibility of his involvement even more dangerous, as it suggested that the network controlled by “The Broker” had successfully infiltrated the very core of law enforcement, turning protectors into participants.

Determined to confirm the truth, Arjun decided to proceed cautiously, choosing not to confront Rakesh directly but instead to observe his movements, track his interactions, and gather evidence that could either prove his guilt or clear his name, and as he waited patiently, he noticed something unusual—a black car, similar to the one that had been following him, parked near the entrance of the building, its presence immediately raising suspicion.

Hours passed as Arjun remained in position, his focus unwavering despite the slow passage of time, until finally, late into the night, he saw Rakesh Sharma step out of the building, dressed formally as if heading to an important meeting, his expression calm yet distant, and without hesitation, he walked toward the black car and got inside, confirming Arjun’s growing suspicion that there was indeed a connection.

Without wasting a second, Arjun started his car and began to follow them at a safe distance, careful not to draw attention, as the vehicle moved through the city, taking a route that seemed deliberately indirect, as if the driver was trying to avoid being tracked, but Arjun’s experience allowed him to keep up, maintaining just enough distance to stay hidden while not losing sight of them.

The car eventually stopped outside a high-end hotel, a place known for hosting influential guests and private meetings, and as Arjun watched from a distance, he saw Rakesh step out and enter the building, his movements confident and unhurried, suggesting that this was not his first time there, and that whatever meeting he was attending was something he was already familiar with.

Arjun waited a few minutes before entering the hotel himself, blending in with the late-night crowd as he made his way inside, his eyes scanning the surroundings for any sign of Rakesh, and after a brief search, he spotted him heading toward a restricted area, one that was not accessible to regular guests, confirming that this was no ordinary meeting.

Carefully following from a distance, Arjun managed to get close enough to overhear fragments of a conversation taking place inside one of the private rooms, voices low but intense, discussing transactions, timelines, and something referred to as “the next phase,” all of which pointed toward an operation much larger than he had initially anticipated, and then, a name was mentioned—“The Broker”—spoken with a level of respect that made it clear that this person was not just a leader, but a force that commanded authority over everyone involved.

As Arjun listened, his suspicions were finally confirmed—Inspector Rakesh Sharma was not just involved, but actively participating in the network, playing a role that was far more significant than Arjun had imagined, turning the case into something far more dangerous, as exposing him would not only risk Arjun’s life but also shake the entire system.

But just as Arjun prepared to move closer, to gather more evidence, something unexpected happened—a hand suddenly grabbed him from behind, pulling him back into the shadows before he could react, his heart racing as he realized that his presence had been discovered, and whoever had caught him was not going to let him go easily.
